The New “Sacrifice”

If I was ever going to get the “equivalent” to the Oscar for being a high school music teacher, I would be AWFUL / HORRIBLE / TERRIBLE if I did not thank my wife for all she GAVE-UP so I could be an award winning high school music teacher.  SCREW IT.  I don’t need to be an award-winning high school music teacher.  I am JUST a high school music teacher.

There is NOTHING WRONG acknowledging my wife for all she has sacrificed (if it is a sacrifice) by being a full-time wife and mom!  I did not know being a full-time wife and mom would be considered a “sacrifice.”  So her family can have a chance to survive and possibly thrive in this current version of the United States of America, I see it as a choice a woman makes.

Thanks to my wife, we have a marriage that has survived six schools / ten moves.

Thanks to my wife, we have a marriage that has survived SEVERE SLANDER / ATTACKS by “disturbed” / “challenged” / “hurting parents / students.”  If ya only saw how my wife has been attacked by some band moms over the years.

Thanks to my wife, we have a marriage that has survived family and friends’ deaths.  My wife was the person who phoned 911 while our friend Greg was dying.

Thanks to my wife, we have a marriage that has survived through a time where the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman is not the “norm.”

Thanks to my wife, our children graduated from high school and the University of Idaho.

Thanks to my wife, our children thrived in every activity they did as children.  Scouts.  Dancing.  Soccer. Baseball. Football… EVERYTHING.

Thanks to my wife, our children understand how a stable marriage can lead to stable children.

Thanks to my wife, our son is being a great husband to our daughter-in-law.  My wife taught him what a wife needs.

Thanks to my wife, our grandson has an awesome DJ-NANNA.

I LOVE YOU DIANA! Thank you for being so patient and supportive.

To all the WOMEN who choose to be a full-time wife and mom … THANK YOU.

To all the WOMEN who choose to be a wife / mom / and be in the public or private sector… THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU.  That is a lot of flippn’ work and I hope your husband is by your side.  Seriously… that is a lot of work.

To attack this man and his wife for the choices they have made is CRAP!  Yes… Crap.  You are probably jealous. What does it matter?  Shouldn’t we be happy they are happy.  Shouldn’t we be happy they have been married for 34 years?  Why are you so angry?

He did the right thing, as I am doing, and acknowledging the woman who wanted to be his wife and the mom of their children.  If I had to correct him, I don’t think it is a “sacrifice” to be a full-time wife and mom.  It is a choice.  She chose a different career.

Because, I wanted to be a better dad than I had, I chose not to get a masters or doctorate.  I had also seen many friends’ marriages struggle / fail because they focused so much on their career and not wife / children.  IT WAS MY CHOICE TO not CONTINUE MY EDUCATION JOURNEY.  And, because of that choice, I have had, and hope will continue to have a great marriage (until we die) and a great time being a daddy and wonderful time being a father-in-law grandpa.

Hmmmmm… I guess we look at the word “sacrifice” differently.  Anyone who chooses to be a full-time spouse (see, I am getting into the progressive world) / parent shouldn’t be looked upon as a sacrifice as much as … AN HONORABLE DECISION.  We need more people to make that HONORABLE DECISION.  Sacrifices will be needed to make that HONORABLE DECISION a reality (sacrifices: fewer meals out; clothes; medical; time; etc.)

Being a full-time spouse / parent is a sacrifice?  When did that happen?
