Well, I probably write enough on Facebook, but I have forty-five minutes until my students are to be in their band uniforms ready to perform at their third high school football game of the year. Just to give you an idea… it is Friday, September 23, 2016. Earlier this week a Charlotte man – who happens to be black – was shot by a Charlotte police officer – who happens to be black. Race in these situations I guess is important. Sort of reminds me of the time September 14, 2001, when I was asked by a news reporter, “Following September 11, 2001, what does it feel like to hear your students perform our National Anthem?” My answer: “Doesn’t feel any different. It does not take three-thousand deaths to make it more special. Every time my students perform the National Anthem, it is special and tonight it will be no more special.” A loss of life should be tragic no matter race or number of bodies, but somehow our nation has reverted to race being an issue and the number of bodies seems to make a difference, as well. Not that the race issue has gone away… it will not go away. People will not allow the race issue to go away.
So now that race is “what is old is new again,” what about the white man who was beaten by black men? When did this become okay? “Okay” is not the correct word. No one says “Okay.” What we hear is “empathy” or “understand.” Understand what caused the black men to beat this white man. NO! I cannot have empathy for beating another man. NO! I cannot have empathy for people who do not follow the police orders.
I have 27 minutes remaining…
My quick write is because I am saddened that we have allowed people to tear apart our nation. Seeing people destroy others’ property in the name of “justice” is evil. Seeing people beat another man in the name of “justice” is evil. Seeing people go into others’ communities to participate in the “protests” are really rioters and they are evil. By the way, I wonder if they have job to go to the next day.
We need to eradicate evil in our nation! Evil is among us. Yes, there is evil in a “blue uniform.” Yes, there is evil in a “pinstripe suite” or “nice dress.” Where there are human beings, there is EVIL. Evil knows no color! Evil knows no profession! When you see a person being beaten by another – THAT IS EVIL. When you see cops go into a neighborhood and be shot at or shouted at – THAT IS EVIL. When you see a major bank STEAL money from people – THAT IS EVIL.
I have 21 minutes remaining …
You all talk about minimizing “the cause.” The cause: BLACK LIVES MATTER. No one is minimizing the cause! What you all are doing is ignoring the fact that where there are human beings, THERE IS EVIL.
What do we do? I am not going to say, “turn to God!” Even though my relationship with GOD works for me when I feel that I am becoming evil. I do turn to God. So, I am going to attempt to have a more secular answer. What do we do? Acknowledge that what we are seeing is EVIL. You have to recognize and accept it before we can “cure it.” Now, that we know that this is evil working, stand-up to it. Don’t excuse it! Don’t make excuses for it. Ask those people: ARE YOU DONE YET? Ask again: ARE YOU DONE YET? And then ask it a third time: ARE YOU DONE YET? We need to allow them to hear their answer. I bet they don’t even know the “real” reason for their evil.
I have 17 minutes remaining…
So, STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR WHY YOU HURT OTHERS.
STOP MAKING IT A RACE ISSUE. A BLACK POLICE OFFICER KILLED A BLACK MAN
STOP BELIEVING THAT THIS NATION IS AMONG OTHER NATIONS THAT WHEN YOU GROW-UP POOR YOU CAN GO TO A COLLEGE; SCHOLARSHIP FOR PLAYING A SPORT; AND, THEN MAKE MILLIONS PLAYING THAT SPORT. We may be the ONLY nation that can say this.
BELIEVE THAT WITH A GOOD HEART / LOVE FOR YOURSELF AND GIVE LOVE TO OTHERS / EVIL WILL BE DESTROYED. If you choose not to believe in GOD, then please believe that every action you CHOOSE represents good or evil. ONE OR THE OTHER. Choose wisely.
I now have ten minutes. Gotta Go.
